Our History
Since 1986 in the
Vault
Since 1986, the Trichter has made its home in the historic vaulted cellars of the Findelgasse. A rustic vibe, historic murals, and an unmistakable Trichter spirit – this place was more than just a café. For many, it was the unofficial heart of the FAU WiSo.
The Vault: Once a public bathhouse for schoolchildren, later home to generations of FAU students. A place where daydreams turned into Trichter adventures.
The Name: Not because of alcohol binges – the Trichter (funnel) stands for the "funneling of knowledge," inspired by the legendary Nuremberg Funnel.
What Remains: A group of dedicated students keeping the Trichter alive with passion and free-spiritedness. No matter where.
One place closes, a new one begins
The building on Findelgasse is likely closing for a longer while. After all these years, this chapter ends ... but the Trichter doesn't!
Starting winter semester 2026/27, we're relaunching at a new location! There, we'll welcome you into our vegan café with coffee & treats. A place to study, hang out, connect, or just chat: no obligation to buy anything. The move is still ahead of us, but we want to take you along on the journey from day one!
We can't wait to meet you!
