Our History

Since 1986 in the
Vault

Since 1986, the Trichter has made its home in the historic vaulted cellars of the Findelgasse. A rustic vibe, historic murals, and an unmistakable Trichter spirit – this place was more than just a café. For many, it was the unofficial heart of the FAU WiSo.

The Vault: Once a public bathhouse for schoolchildren, later home to generations of FAU students. A place where daydreams turned into Trichter adventures.

The Name: Not because of alcohol binges – the Trichter (funnel) stands for the "funneling of knowledge," inspired by the legendary Nuremberg Funnel.

What Remains: A group of dedicated students keeping the Trichter alive with passion and free-spiritedness. No matter where.

Goodbye Findelgasse, hello Insel Schütt!

With the end of the summer semester 2026, we left the Findelgasse. What happens to the vault next is still open. Either way, the Trichter lives on!

We've moved into the Inselkeller in the Mensa Schütt building and can't wait to see you! We serve vegan treats, coffee and soft drinks at student-friendly prices. You don't have to buy anything, you're also welcome to just drop by to study or hang out.

The Trichter thrives because students pour their energy into it – not because anyone is paid to do so. Volunteering here means taking on real responsibility, bringing your own ideas and becoming part of something bigger than any single event. If you want to shape things rather than just show up, you're in the right place.

Whether it's events, café setup, social media or just a good idea at the right moment – no matter what, you can help. All that counts is the will to contribute.
